Buckeyes Give: Month of Service

From packing up 8,000 meals and harvesting 6 tons of cucumbers in Florida to collecting 10,00 pounds of food in New Mexico, Buckeyes dedicated a month of service work to the issue of food security.

Pack Shack
Buckeye volunteers feed 76,000 people

Music and spirits were upbeat as 219 Buckeye volunteers came together to pack 76,320 meals for the hungry in central Ohio during the first Feed the Funnel party with the Pack Shack.

Meera Nagarajan
"Our generation has the power to do something about this.”

A nutrition science major with plans for medical school, Meera Nagarajan founded the Food Fellows program, in which students from a variety of majors discuss and research food-related issues. Inspired by a faculty mentor, she studies the nutrition, food security and health status of those who visit a Columbus food pantry.

Rivals united in service
Rivals united in service

When the Buckeyes traveled to Phoenix to compete in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, they brought Ohio State’s spirit of community service with them. At the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, volunteers from Ohio State and Notre Dame joined forces and packed more than 5,000 food kits for Arizona families. The kits included tomato seeds engineered by Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
